About Pretoria Drama Eisteddfod
About Us
The Pretoria Drama Eisteddfod, under the auspices of On-Cue National Arts Festivals, provides a vital platform for learners to engage in the arts, fostering holistic development and encouraging participation in cultural activities. As a registered non-profit cultural organisation, we strive to fill the gap left by limited resources and opportunities for arts and culture in many schools.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to empowering learners through the dramatic arts, especially those who may not be involved in traditional extracurricular activities. By promoting personal growth, communication skills, and creative expression, we aim to nurture the potential of every participant while contributing to a healthier, more balanced development.
What We Do
The Pretoria Drama Eisteddfod hosts an annual drama arts festival in Pretoria, complemented by training workshops led by young, qualified professionals. These workshops prepare participants for the festival, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and confidence. Expert adjudicators with extensive knowledge of the arts evaluate the performances, upholding the highest standards.
Our Journey
In 2024, the Pretoria Drama Eisteddfod branched out from the Pretoria Eisteddfod to establish its own identity while remaining part of the On-Cue National Arts Festivals network. This connection allows us to contribute to a national vision for arts education and festival hosting.
Our Vision
We aim to make the arts accessible and impactful by:
- Providing opportunities for learners to participate in arts festivals, including those from remote and underserved communities.
- Offering training and skills development tailored to South African arts festivals.
- Creating platforms for qualified educators and artists to share their expertise.
- Ensuring high standards, unity, and professionalism in adjudication.
- Building partnerships with cultural organisations, performing arts studios, and educational institutions to promote youth development.
Our Diversity
The Pretoria Drama Eisteddfod celebrates South Africa's rich linguistic and cultural heritage. While our official languages are Afrikaans and English, we also include isiZulu and Sepedi, where trained adjudicators are available. This reflects our commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
Festival Highlights
Each year, participants showcase their talents in a wide array of performance categories, such as:
- Verse Speaking, Slam Poetry, and Spoken Word
- Monologues, Duologues, and Group Drama

Fees Hoogtepunte
Elke jaar wys deelnemers hul talente in 'n wye verskeidenheid kategorieë, soos:
